2009 Conference Tournament Winners

Be careful, be very, very careful.  Why, do you ask?  I will tell you why.  Let’s take a look at the Big East Tournament right now.  Syracuse is on a ridiculous roll right now defeating Connecticut on Wednesday night, or should I say, Thursday morning after six overtimes.  What a game.  If you missed it, shame on you.  Nobody would have blamed them if they came out last night against West Virginia and were blown out, however, they rose to the occasion once again and defeated West Virginia, of course, in overtime.  They have all the momentum on their side and anyway these kids are all around twenty years old so they shouldn’t get tired just because of a few overtime games.  Regardless of the outcome of tonight’s Big East Title game Syracuse will eventually hit a wall.  However, if they win many handicappers will be all over them in NCAA tournament play.

That is just the wrong move.  Don’t make your bracket picks or wagers on teams just because they look hot right now, that can be a big mistake.  Look at their entire body of work this season to determine how well they will do come tournament time.  2009 Conference Tournament Winners often look appealing but usually are due for a let down in the first or second round.  

Again, take Syracuse for example.  If they were to win tonight they would indeed receive a higher seed than they deserve.  Syracuse was in fact a bubble team not to long ago.  Even if they do advance past they first two round in the tournament they probably will not cover the inflated line.  

2009 Conference Tournament Winners often are the sexy picks for the NCAA tournament, just be careful how much stock you put into them when filling out your brackets or placing real wagers.
