Great Moments in NCAA Tournament History

Yes, this tournament is arguably the single most exciting sporting event in all of sport, college or professional for that matter! This tournament has evolved over the years from an eight team tournament to a field of sixty five. Here is a list of exciting and significant events that have helped the tournament grow into what we now know as March Madness.
1939: The first tournament is held and Oregon is crowned the champion as they defeat Ohio State.
1951: The tournament field doubles from eight teams to sixteen teams.
1952: The first true Final Four meet in the city of Seattle.
1956: The tournament is divided into four regions that include four number 1 seeds.
1966: UTEP who is comprised of an all black starting line-up defeats Kentucky who has an all white line-up
1967-1973: UCLA wins a record seven consecutive National Championship games
1975: The field again doubles from 16 to 32 teams.
1976: Bob Knight leads his undefeated Indiana Hoosiers to a National Championship.
1980: The field is expanded to 48 teams.
1985: The field is expanded to 64 teams.
1997: Arizona becomes the first National Champion to defeat three number 1 seeds on route to their victory.
2008: For the very first time all 4 number 1 seeds advance to the Final Four.
