The other day, I read an article telling about TV networks and advertising revenue and discovered this incredible fact.

The 2 most popular outdoor sports are not football, baseball, or soccer, and obviously it’s not basketball, either since those events are held mainly indoors. The way they measure which sport is the most popular outdoor one is by the attendance at events, and number of people generally involved.  You also have to remember that we’re talking about sports that are strictly outdoors.

The first one of the 2 most popular outdoor activities or sports is birding, or birdwatching.  You might be wondering how this is considered a sport, because there aren’t teams or anything but there aren’t teams playing against each other during bass fishing tournaments either, it just man against nature.  Birding is similar to fishing as a sport because there are bird spotting and bird identification competitions.And both are outdoors in all kinds of weather.

You would be amazed at how many people are birding these days and it is a low-cost hobby or sport to participate in.  One last thing I want to mention about the expenses involved in this sport is that many birders invest in a quality pair of bird binoculars to get the most out of their birdwatching trips.

Honest, the second most popular sport is Nascar Racing. I was astounded by this discovery.What makes this so popular? There are lots of NASCAR events all over the country and thousands of fans go to NASCAR events.

Did you know it would take 5 or 6 full house games at Fenway Park to match the number of people at one popular NASCAR event.  So that’s why Nascar is up there as one of the top 2 outdoor sporting events. You could have fooled me!
